Requirements Engineering supports product development by identifying the problems and requirements of customers and users and summarising them in a specification for the future system. Important aspects here are the description of the system environment and the objective of the system. The subsequent development part, where the specification is used to design and implement a functioning system, is called Design Engineering. Requirements Engineering first provides the answers to the questions: What should my system do and why? And then: How does my system meet the requirements?

When eliciting requirements, various techniques are used to elicit, detail and refine requirements from stakeholders and other sources. Through documentation, elicited requirements are adequately described. Different techniques can be used to document requirements in natural language or in models. The recorded requirements must be checked and agreed at an early stage to ensure that they meet all the required quality criteria.
The requirements for a product or system increase with its complexity. Requirements Engineering accompanies all other activities and includes all measures necessary to structure requirements, to prepare them for different roles and to change and implement them consistently. This also includes change and error management.
Through methodical Systems Engineering, we provide support in the specification and management of requirements. This enables the traceability of requirements implementation and, in addition to more precise planning, a check for test coverage is achieved.
