Mechanical Development for Medical Devices

Development of Mechanical and Mechatronic Systems and Devices in Medical Technology

invenio is your partner for the development of complex mechanical systems for medical devices – from conception to series documentation. In the conception phase, we use the following methods, among others:

  • Functional structures
  • Creativity methods
    • 6-3-5
    • TRIZ / Working with solution catalogues
    • Parameter variation
  • Morphology
  • Valuation methods with pair comparison & Pugh matrix

In the subsequent development phase, we translate the product requirements into mechanically robust designs. One example of this is the requirement for the dosing accuracy of a pump realised through a rigid design, short force paths and low-friction drive technology. For mechatronic products, we focus on the management of interfaces to electronics and software. For example, when considering the risks, a mechanical element to prevent a malfunction can be significantly cheaper than an electronic solution.

In the development phase, we focus on 'design to cost' and 'design for manufacturing'. To safeguard milestones, we work with checklists and the dual control principle as part of reviews.

With our Comprehensive Manufacturing and Development Expertise, we seamlessly Combine
Mechanical Components with Electronic and Software-Supported Systems – for Innovative Medical Products

Examples of Medica Products that we have Developed at invenio:

  • Motorised wheelchair with optimised ergonomics and standing function
  • Medical pump systems, e.g. disposable or reusable pen injectors with precise dosing (combination products)
  • Sterilisation device for steam sterilisation of instruments
  • Dental treatment centre systems, e.g. LED light, chair kinematics, support arm for medical instrument and cleaning system
  • Clinical suction pump as a mobile unit with a focus on hygienic design, easy cleaning and minimal noise emissions
  • Combination product for nasal vaccination, concept for 2-step dosing with automatic dose division
  • PEG gastric tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) – revision of the design, materials and joining process incl. testing
  • Training device for clinics for the application of gastric tubes, development and small series production (not a medical device)
  • Medical product for vibration therapy, battery-operated with a focus on minimising weight and good ergonomics
