VT-DMU: YOUR SOLUTION FOR DIGITAL MOCK-UP (DMU)

DMU Modules for Efficient Product Development and Customised Use Cases

We support you in digital product development with our market-leading and innovative software construction kit based on the Lego principle: VT-DMU.

VT-DMU is the centrepiece for digital mock-ups, numerous software products and individual customer solutions, all based on 3D data. Over 50 powerful modules and algorithms reduce or replace physical prototypes and help to significantly reduce development times and identify problems or errors in digital product development at an early stage.

The modular software system is as flexible as Lego; the individual modules can be combined and linked as required depending on the use case or requirement. This results in an infinite number of use cases such as calculating collisions, reducing data or generating images in the digitalisation of product development.

VT-DMU can also process large volumes of data efficiently. Intelligent algorithms ensure targeted calculation results and create transparency in the data. VT-DMU is also cloud-ready.

Take a look at the possibilities offered by VT-DMU and how we cover use cases.

Use Case: Collision Calculation

When calculating collisions, the VT-DMU modules recognise geometric conflicts in the virtual product or in the 3D data at an early stage. The results show clearly and precisely where problem areas are located. First, all neighbourhoods are identified and sorted using space map technology. In the second step, the intelligent algorithms analyse interfaces such as contacts, overlaps or distance violations between the components. The result is a list of all geometric conflicts in the virtual product. By combining the modules, you receive a complete and high-performance solution to reliably safeguard the geometry of all your virtual products.

Use Case: Data Reduction

The data reduction modules are used to reduce the data volume of development data (3D data) for various applications. The special algorithms ensure maximum data reduction with the highest surface quality. All visible surfaces are retained and the interior is removed accordingly using an intelligent process. The wide range of functions of the individual modules can also perform structures, colouring, coarsening of the surface and much more in order to further reduce the amount of data. The results can be used for data exchange, for the visualisation of complete products or for confidentiality purposes to protect intellectual property.

Use Case: Image Generation

A picture says more than 1000 words. The unique VT-DMU modules for image generation create technical images or high-quality high-end graphics of the product directly from the 3D data. Depending on the application, graphics can be generated in a wide variety of qualities and from any number of different perspectives. The possibilities range from line drawings and automatic rendering in CAD colours to 2D projection from the 3D objects and realistic products including physically correct materials.

Long before the first prototype is physically built or the product is available, high-quality images can be created independently and automatically for management templates, product visualisations (e.g. website), spare parts catalogues, assembly instructions or operating manuals.

Many Other Use Cases are Possible!

VT-DMU offers unlimited possibilities for customised use cases and customer solutions with over 50 individual modules. The individual modules can be combined again and again for a wide variety of use cases. These include data preparation, geometry comparisons, removal and installation simulation, data conversions and many more. Talk to us!

In combination, the possibilities are almost unlimited. Whether complex processes such as the automatic geometry inspection of complete product families overnight, the safeguarding of welding guns and screwdrivers in the digital factory or the automatic creation of product and spare parts graphics – VT-DMU improves work with 3D data in every respect.

The Advantages of VT-DMU at a Glance

Anyone who works with 3D data – regardless of the data format and industry - can use VT-DMU profitably. The benefits are completely individual:

  • Powerful functions integrated into customer systems and processes

  • Process data volumes that push other systems to their limits

  • Automate processes that were previously carried out manually

  • Identify errors in the early phase and shorten the development time

  • Reduce physical prototypes and thus save costs

Use VT-DMU Across All Industries

The CAD systems and data formats used vary greatly depending on the industry. The size of the company also has an influence on the available CAD system and the consistency of the digital data. Suppliers who develop for many different customers have to use almost all CAD systems and therefore have to cope with a very heterogeneous and complex system landscape. This is a major challenge when it comes to realising consistent processes and ensuring collaboration with partners.

VT-DMU supports you in mastering this challenge.

Frequently Asked Questions about Digital Mock-Up (DMU)

The abbreviation DMU stands for Digital Mock-Up or digital prototype. A digital mock-up forms the basis for digital product development. DMU also stands for what we do. We have had a lasting influence on this term with our VT-DMU modular software system. The modular kit consists of many powerful modules that can be used individually or flexibly combined with each other depending on the use case. With the help of our modules, a digital prototype can be fully calculated, analysed and visualised.

A digital mock-up is the digital design of a physical product, i.e. a digital prototype. This design is a realistic, true-to-scale 3D model and is used to visualise a future physical product.
In the various development phases, calculations, designs and simulations are carried out to increase the degree of maturity. Regardless of the industry, we ensure complete and up-to-date data as well as a collision-free and error-free prototype throughout the entire development process, from concept to series production.

In product development, a digital mock-up is used to visualise a physical prototype in a digital environment. In this way, very complex and expensive physical prototypes can be replaced by digital models and simulations. The advantages include speeding up the entire product development process, reducing errors in the development process and cutting costs. In terms of sustainability, waste is also avoided as no or fewer hardware prototypes need to be built.

DMU software is a technology that can be used to analyse, calculate and display a digital prototype. Our VT-DMU software toolkit is our unique selling point and helps our customers to efficiently process, calculate and visualise their 3D data. From design and development to service and sales, we offer solutions for virtual product development that are unrivalled on the market.

DMU modules, or digital mock-up modules, are software modules that can be used to digitally analyse, calculate and simulate products. They are also used to digitally validate products in detail before physical prototypes are built. Depending on the application, individual modules can also be flexibly combined to form algorithms or entire software solutions.

DMU modules allow engineers and designers to digitally check various aspects of a product before hardware prototypes are built. This leads to faster development and production readiness of products, fewer problems and an overall more efficient design phase.

Our DMU modules offer a realistic, digital representation of products. This enables our customers to save on hardware, organise development processes more efficiently and avoid errors thanks to Frist Time Right. Our solutions also offer full transparency in the 3D data.
We help our customers to develop real products from visions. With our services and the VT-DMU modular software system, we provide support throughout the entire product development cycle. Virtual geometric validation allows us to quickly and reliably identify quality problems such as collisions or distance violations, for example.

The biggest advantage of working with the modules is the transparency they create. Every user knows how his or her data is doing and can therefore interact quickly with others if a problem arises or a decision needs to be made. The ability to review digital models together and edit them in real time creates additional efficiency.

Yes, DMU modules are scalable and can also be combined individually. They can be customised for companies of any size, from small data sets to big data. As a result, we offer both start-ups and large corporations flexible solutions for digital product development to meet the respective requirements and challenges of ever faster product cycles.
